Installing BeyondPress
By default, the installer will place the BeyondPress User Guide, Online Reference, Tutorials, Quick Start Guide, and other support files in a folder named "Extensis BeyondPress™ 4.0" located on your hard drive.
Additionally, the installer will place the following files in the QuarkXPress XTension folder:
After launching BeyondPress, you will be requested to serialize and register the software. Please enter the serial number located on the back of the manual. If you do not have a serial number, you can choose to run BeyondPress in demo mode; demo mode allows full functionality for 30 days.
Please register using one of the built-in electronic registration methods. If you do not have Internet access or printer, you may fill out the registration card in the back of the manual.

RELEASE NOTES:
PREFERENCES FROM EARLIER VERSIONS OF BEYONDPRESS
If you have earlier versions of BeyondPress installed on your machine, preferences from the earlier version will be used when running the BeyondPress 4.0. While this isn’t a problem, it does mean that certain features that add WYSIWYG functionality will be turned off when you first launch the program. To gain this functionality, turn on the Use DHTML/CSS positioning checkbox in Layout Preferences and turn on Cascading Style Sheets in Export Preferences. Also, in previous versions of BeyondPress, the background color for web pages was set to the browser default, while in BeyondPress 4.0, the default background color is white. If you are using preferences from an earlier version of BeyondPress, you may have to manually change the background color to white in Web Page Preferences.
To return all of BeyondPress 4.0’s preferences to their factory settings:
1. Open Preferences by clicking on the Preferences button on the Document Content Palette. Click on the Application icon to view Application Preferences.
2. Hold down the Option key while clicking the Import button. The button’s name changes to Import All.
3. Click on the Factory Preferences buttton.
BROWSER ISSUES
Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer do not interpret all HTML tags the same way. If BeyondPress seems to produce an unexpected or undesirable result on a page viewed in Navigator, try viewing the same page in Internet Explorer — or vice versa. While BeyondPress generates “clean” and legal HTML, the browsers sometimes follow their own rules as to how the HTML is rendered. We recommend that web authors preview their pages with both browsers.
INSTALLING NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR AND MS INTERNET EXPLORER
Installers for both Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer are included with BeyondPress. These browsers are not installed automatically when you install BeyondPress. You can find the installers in the Extensis BeyondPress 4.0 folder on the Extensis CD.
BONUS TUTORIAL: META TAGS AND JAVA SCRIPTS
BeyondPress 4.0 comes with a new tutorial that shows you how to add Meta Tags to your web pages during export from QuarkXPress - without having to write code or edit HTML. The same tutorial shows you how you can add a Java scripts that detect the version of the web browsers being used to view your pages. With these browser detection scripts, you can automatically warn visitors if they’re using a browsere that can’t read DHTML pages or redirect them on the fly to alternative pages that use standard HTML instead of DHTML.
You can find the tutorial and ready-made scripts in the Meta Tags/Java Tutorial folder, inside the BeyondPress Tutorials Folder, which is installed in the Extensis BeyondPress folder on your hard drive.
FREE EXTENSIS PHOTOANIMATOR
BeyondPress 4.0 comes with a free copy of Extensis PhotoAnimator. PhotoAnimator is a full-fledged animation package built for the needs of Web designers. With its automatic frame generation, time-line based animation and automatic frame and color optimization, PhotoAnimator has revolutionized the creation of animated GIFs for the Web. Animated GIFs you create with PhotoAnimator can be added to web pages you create using BeyondPress by simply dragging them onto a QuarkXPress page. You can install PhotoAnimator by double-clicking on the PhotoAnimator icon located in the Extensis BeyondPress 4.0 folder on the Extensis CD. You can obtain a serial number for your copy of PhotoAnimator from the Extensis web site at <http://www.extensis.com/PA_Reg/>.
